Just twist on up! The cap above the pedal, that is. It’s like a volume knob, opening the flower or closing it, bringing the light to a broader world or directing it to a sharper area. 32 warm and cold LEDs spread across four adjustable pedals on a pivot and twist head joint.

Take a peek at the black border image down there while I explain up here to see what I’m chatting at you about! Down from the light head there’s a twist joint that twists 300degrees and a counter-weight on the bottom to hold the light up. There’s a couple of dimmers in here too- one for cold light, one for warm! Fifteen vold DC socket under the bottom base, 4 watts power consumed total. Kind of a small amount you might think. Are you all up into this?

Blackout Lamp combines the functions of the table lamp and torch. The batteries in the detachable torch are recharged when the table lamp is used, so there will always be a light source at hand during a blackout.

Blackout Lamp offers convenience when you really need it, allowing the table lamp to double-up as a torch when a blackout occurs. It makes sense to reach for the familiar lamp during a blackout; it is easily accessed and avoids the need to ransack the house for the emergency torch only to fi nd that the batteries are flat! The torch is easily lifted from the lamp stand after the wire is unplugged. The torch’s internal batteries are recharged during the normal use of the table lamp. In environmental terms, allowing a product to take on more than one function always beats buying more products. By looking at our patterns of use and behaviour, we can make products assume more roles without losing their identity. Designed as part of a collection exploring the possibilities of green design, Blackout Lamp seeks to provide an eco-conscious solution beyond technology, sacrifi ces and statistics.
