Students and visitors in MIT’s Killian Courtyard won’t be able to miss the SOFT rockers’ graceful looping shapes, it looks like an outdoor rocking lounge furniture with a strip next-gen thin film solar panel on top, soft-wood detailing below, and interior LED lighting that glows like something out of TRON. a team lead by Sheila Kennedy, MIT Professor of the Practice of Architecture, presented to the Killian Court of MIT an outstanding project of a smart solar energy charging station – Soft Rocker The solar panels feed a 6-volt battery during the day, and it’s powerful enough, to fully charge three iPhones together in about four hours. the SOFT rockers are comfy. Designers Kennedy said"I wanted to explore how new value can be created through design for rapid growth soft wood materials in the building industry, and how software and automated fabrication can be used to mass customize the form that wood can take," .

The end result is a futuristic rocking chair, environmentally sustainable charging station, and interactive sculpture installation all in one. While having a walk in the park you can take a break in a Soft Rocker, easily charge your phone, run any USB device, watch a movie on a laptop, or have a little party, even at night the loop LED lighting is very enjoyable . Great technology and environment-friendly addition to the outdoors!

LED lights on high heels decked out like a cop car

We know that civilians are not allowed to wear certain uniforms such as those of the police force, but here’s something that the fashion police wouldn’t mind seeing – the conceptual 3D Stiletto Police. It is a pair of stilettos that have the outer decals of a patrol car and not only that, it has LED lights which turn on and off, shining blue and red lights all around to warn bad boys to keep their hands off you. Would be great if it came with its own set of sirens as well.

There’s no indication of whether these LED festooned stiletto heels include a set of handcuffs, however, the rest of the outfit is probably not a standard-issue police uniform. Just remember one thing if you get pulled over by these blinking stilettos: You have the right to remain silent.

Japan’s Tranlogue Associates are experimenting with a very cool new (at least for us) lighting technology – surface emitting acrylic. Transparent like any other acrylic, but with the ability to radiate light from an invisible LED source. The designs are pretty amazing as well. Well done.
