Swedish company LampGustaf’s amusing LED lights Stitch Lamp demands a bit of DIY: It comes with a darning needle and yarn in eight colors, so you can add your own pattern to the mesh shade. It even sort of comes in portrait or landscape modes: The creatively meek need not worry–when the LED lamp launches in May, LampGustaf will also be posting downloadable patterns online, as well as providing a space for user-uploaded photos of their creations.
italian born artist paola pivi’s ‘nice ball’, a LED lamp constructed from 80 miniatures representing the iconic furniture designs from the collection of the vitra design museum. the small versions of chairs and tables are arranged over metal frames creating a sphere that envelopes the LED light bulb within. when lit, the LED lamps project a graphic pattern of silhouettes of the furniture, allowing the viewer to experience the vitra design classics in 2D and 3D format. Designer Paula Arnten says of her Petit Trianon LED Lamp (and its larger sibling, the Grand Trianon), “Both lights are a result of a unique experience I had at the Palace of Versailles combined with my love for this elegant material.” The lamp is made from Tyvek, and LED lights, a post-consumer plastic with a delicate feel that balances the size and scale of both versions.
