paris-based designer ionna vautrin has created ‘moaïs’ LED lamps. the LED lighting collection consists of both a pendant ceiling lamp and totem-like floor lights created in three height variations with black rolled-aluminum, cone shaped bases. each of the polycarbonate sheets which comprise the lampshades of the statuesque collection are silkscreened in several designs. the sheets are framed by brightly-colored aluminum ‘combs’ which maintain the three dimensional shape of the lighting objects, whether set upon a base or strung from the ceiling.

Scientifically, the phenomenon of bioluminescence is not new – and well researched: microbes (bacteria) organic residues on food (nice of them) and give it the green light from smooth. Now a team of Philips Design Department under the project "Microbial Home" has been getting these insights with "organic light" into practice. One can see that is currently in the Dutch Design Week Eindhoven 2011.
"Organic light" for a suitable living and working environments, lighting fixtures from Blaskugeln is in a steel frame, supplied with nutrient solution through silicone tubes.
