Ripple Interactive LED coffee table responds to touch with lights

The Ripple is made by a collaboration between Because We Can and Evil Mad Science. The very name of the “Ripple Interactive LED Coffee Table” gives the picture of what actually is distinctive about this piece of home furniture. Comprising of 480 super-bright white LEDs and optical sensors, it creates an illuminating effect when you place your stuff on or near the table.

On knowing how many holes it creates in your pocket, it might sound pricey but for a playfully innovative table like this, I guess you won’t mind these holes, right? Ranging from $1,500 to $2,100 depending on length, the cool illuminating touch sensitive table will add a touch of glory to your living room. It’s a bit pricey for the house, though a table like this would be a big hit at a bar. Then again the lightshow effect, which looks cool as heck when you’re sober, is probably going to be quite disorienting when you’re drunk.

Tomato Lighting LED lamp

“Still light” is a hybrid LED light system, integrating organic & metal parts within a single electrical circuit. Similar to a simple battery, the LED lamp is powered by an electrochemical reaction of copper and Zinc electrodes placed in the tomatoes.

The exposed circuits engages the use and invites the monitoring of energy consumption while the anachronistic use of natural components gives the object an organic, finite life cycle; a reminder of life’s impermanence.

Erasing Darkness Eraser LED Lamp

The big push takes the place of the little switch with this new LED light device by Steffen Kehrle and Julia Landsiedl for Moree. Apparently it’s difficult to dim these new energy-saving LED light bulbs. They be bright. This solution these two designers have here is to literally block the light, the object replicating the look of a push-out eraser with a paper cover. Don’t worry though, this is made of aluminum.

The Eraser is 38×13×21 centimeters at its smallest state. Anodized aluminum, PMMA. Colors: Champagne, Aluminum, with that nice little Moree tag at the base. Cord out the back with an unmistakable no-switch activation. Plug it in and watch it go.

Punch Weeble Wobble LED Light

Weeble Wobbles were great. I remember punching the hell out of them trying to figure out how much force it would take to knock down the relentless stout punching bag. Fast forward to adulthood and having a Weeble Wobble might look silly now, unless you modernize it. That’s what designer Jin-Sook Kim did and he added a little twist. Punch this bag hard enough and the energy turns on a LED light.

the crystal LED strips lights

the crystal monster is an LED light installation by designers beverly tang and tod e. kurt. the project is made from over 400 sheets of laser-cut acrylic than have been wrapped with more than 240 feet of LED tape. the project’s shape and structure was created by tang, while kurt created the LED lighting and electronic components. measuring over 12 feet long, the crystal monster displays a series of light patterns on its LED strips that flutter up and down its length. behind the scenes, the design is driven by a single arduino brain that is connected to an infrared remote, so the lighting can be controlled from afar. the sculpture is now installed in the corner window space of Los Angeles’ continental gallery.
