Here is another interesting state-of-the-art Eco-friendly lighting – the Solar Lampion. Just leave it in the sunlight for the day and forget it. It will do its work – it will store enough electricity to provide you with light for the rest of the time.
The Solar Lampion contains an array of 36 ’standard size’solar cells. They are held together by an open spaced frame. The stored energy gets released at night in the form of light. Time to forget worrying about your soaring electricity bills.
The Solar Lampion is not only solar-powered, but it is also provided with an LED bulb, connected to the solar cells. This bulb is highly energy efficient. Thanks to Damian O’Sullivan for this creation.
Unlike many solar lamps, this one by Damian O’Sullivan, has the solar panels incorporated into its design.
He says: “Most solar lamps today are of the type that you ‘ plant ‘ in your garden and then leave unattended. They store energy during the day and release it in the form of light at night, which is nice. But what if we could bring this light with us, into the home? The Solar Lampion is such a lamp. It is composed of an array of 36 ‘ standard size ‘ solar cells (held together by an open spaced frame), each of which is connected to an LED bulb, which is fed by one rechargeable battery. The solar cells store the sun’s energy during the day and release it at nightfall wherever you need it.”

solar cells…
Well this thread below from SNS seems to point to one. In 2004 the industry grew 62%. And the cost of PV is only 2- 5x per KWH than the grid. Andrew at Intel seems to suggest that the hardware doesn’t need much more improvement, it is really the rest …
